Westland brings us together with a commonality that cannot be overstated. The adults in the community serve the school and the school serves the students. It is in this context that the community is asked to make Westland their philanthropic priority.
As a nonprofit, all donations are tax deductible.
Tuition does not cover the cost of educating each child, and the difference is made up with fundraising. At Westland’s core is the education of children and from this springs community, for both students and their families. Fundraising income is sourced from a variety of activities that also have community building as a component. Generosity of spirit, time, and treasure come together as families and staff combine their efforts for meaningful impact. All are invited to celebrate by participating in a way that is both comfortable and generous.
Every fall Westland hosts a dinner for the adults in the community to mark the start of Annual Giving, which families, staff, and trustees are asked to donate to. The goal is for 100% participation with 100% of the community giving at a level that is generously appropriate to their financial circumstance. Working together, the community shares the responsibility of sustaining and building Westland’s financial strength.
This evening event is focused on the overlap of fun and fundraising, a celebration that includes live and silent auctions, a wine raffle, and Raise the Paddle, which funds a campus improvement project. This event is a valuable source of income for Westland. Families are asked to support Westland by participating in the raffle and attending the event.
The Westland community provides the donated experiences (premiere tickets, vacations, show tapings, etc.) while an auction service provides the platform for public bidders. This does not require dollars from our community but instead the offering of time and/or experiences.
The Fair is our largest celebration for both children and adults. Every member of the community pitches in to make the fair a success through family-built and -run games, bake sales, inspired food service, and live music by Westland parents and students.
This program helps to support the future needs of Westland. From endowments and bequests, gifts of personal property and securities, or portions of retirement plans and life insurance policies allocated in a will or living trust, there are many options for planned giving. This program can have a profound and lasting impact on teaching, education, and flexible tuition at Westland. You may choose a particular area of interest to support or allow your gift to fund key priorities determined by the school’s Board of Trustees.
If one of these strategies seems right for you, we invite you to contact Director of Finance & Development Carole Barber. Every gift, regardless of its size, is appreciated and sends a strong message that you are committed to our students and their education.
